PICO 4 Development: Unity Setup Guide !

In today's PICO 4 Unity video we will be covering the topics mentioned below to help you get your development environment ready with Unity. All the steps will help you get setup and by the end you should be able to have your PICO 4 VR or Mixed Reality experience running on your device.

  • PICO 4 developer mode: In order to develop applications for the PICO 4 device, you will need to enable developer mode on your device.

  • Downloading and Installing PICO Unity Integration SDK: The PICO Unity Integration SDK is a set of tools and libraries that allow you to easily build applications for the PICO 4 device using Unity. You can download the latest version of the SDK from the PICO Development Portal.

  • Downloading and Installing XR Interaction Toolkit 2.3 or greater: The XR Interaction Toolkit is a collection of scripts, prefabs, and other assets that make it easier to build interactive experiences for virtual reality, augmented reality, and other immersive platforms.

  • Updating XR Rig with PICO 4 controller prefabs: The XR Rig is a component that helps you set up the camera and input for your immersive experience. You will need to update the XR Rig with PICO 4 controller prefabs in order to use the PICO 4 controllers in your application. This includes animating the controller button states to reflect the user's input.

  • Updating Build and Player Settings: In order to build and run your application on the PICO 4 device, you will need to update the build and player settings in Unity. 

  • Brief review of PICO Development Portal: The PICO Development Portal is a website where you can find resources and information to help you develop applications for the PICO 4 device. This includes the latest versions of the PICO Unity Integration SDK, documentation, and other tools and resources.

  • Installing PICO Preview Tool: The PICO Preview Tool is a utility that allows you to run your application in Unity's Play Mode and see how it will look and behave on the PICO 4 device. You can install the PICO Preview Tool from the PICO Development Portal.

  • Deploying your first PICO 4 Unity application to your device: Once you have completed all of the above steps, you should be ready to deploy your first PICO 4 Unity application to your device.
